Plagiarism Scandal: Buhari To Punish Those Who Inserted Obama’s Speech Into His ‘Change’ Speech

Plagiarism scandal: Buhari threatens to ‘wield the punitive rod’ on those who inserted Obama’s ‘victory’ speech into his ‘change’ speech.
The Presidency has admitted that the speech read by President Muhammadu Buhari on September 8, the day he launched the ‘Change Begins With Me’ campaign, contained insertions plagiarism, as it has a sentence lifted from a speech made by the United States’ President, Barack Obama, in 2008.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, revealed that an investigation had been launched into the matter and that officials so far identified to have committed the blunder would be punished.
Plagiarism scandal: Buhari threatens to wield the punitive rod on those who inserted Obama’s speech into his ‘change’ speech
According to him, it was observed that the similarities between a paragraph in President Obama’s 2008 Victory Speech and what President Buhari read in paragraph nine of the sixteen-paragraph address while inaugurating the Campaign on Thursday, September 8, 2016 are too close to be passed as coincidence.
Read statement below.
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that prompt and appropriate disciplinary action be taken against those responsible for a wrongful insertion in his speech delivered on September 8, 2016 at the launch of the “Change Begins with Me’’ campaign.
It was observed that the similarities between a paragraph in President Obama’s 2008 Victory Speech and what President Buhari read in paragraph nine of the sixteen-paragraph address while inaugurating the Campaign on Thursday, September 8, 2016 are too close to be passed as coincidence.
There was a mistake by an overzealous staff and we regret that this has happened.
Already, a Deputy Director in the Presidency has accepted responsibility for the insertion of the contentious paragraph.
This serious oversight will be investigated thoroughly and appropriate sanction meted.
The Presidency wishes to state in the clearest possible terms that it regrets this unfortunate incident and will ensure that this does not happen again.
President Buhari urges Nigerians to look beyond this incident and focus on the message of change which the country needs in order to restore our cherished value systems.

D'Banj Dropped by Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music Label?

ABUJA – Award-winning Afrobeats act, D’banj, A.K.A Kokomaster, appears to have gone separate ways with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D music as a late tweet from the label confirmed the fears of many fans who hold the suspicion that Kokomaster is no longer affiliated to the label.

D’banj In an updated list of artistes signed to the Kanye’s music imprint, both old and recent, which G.O.O.D music released on Twitter, the Kokomaster’s name was prominently absent on the rundown, putting to rest gossipy tidbits with respect to whether he is still an act of the label. The list of artistes include; Kanye West, Big Sean, Desiigner, John Legend, Pusha T, Tyga, Teyana Taylor, Kacy Hill and Q-Tip. A summary of signed acts on Def Jam Records’ site also has D’Banj’s name missing. Music lovers in Nigeria have argued in favour of the label pointing out that D’banj have failed to put together an album after five years of parting ways with former label mate, Don Jazzy, back in 2011 and joining G.O.O.D Music.

"Investigation into these untoward activities have commenced and the perpetrators will be handed over to prosecuting agencies for further action."

Christ Embassy pastor kills himself after sending nude picture to whatsapp group

A South African Pastor has committed suicide after he allegedly sent pictures of his peen to his church Whatsapp Group. The cleric, only identified as Pastor Letsego of Christ Embassy, was a married man. He had thought he was sending the picture to his lover, who was also a member of the same church.
To make matters worse he even went on to caption it “wife is away, its all yours tonight”. He then realised his mistake after having hit the send button with congregants expressing shock and outrage over the mishap. The Pastor is alleged to have immediately exited the group and stopped answering his calls. He was found 24 hours later hanging in his rented church house.
“Pastor’s antics have always been a cause for concern, he was always seen in the company of one of the deacons named Miriam and we suspected there was more to their friendship than meets the eye.“Quizzed by his wife and congregants, he would shrug off the allegations and say as a Pastor he was a father to everyone and Miriam was his favourite Daughter,” said one of pastor Lesego’s congregants who refused to be named. Efforts to get a comment from Christ Embassy Officials remains fruitless.

Breakfast mistakes you need to avoid

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but what people do not know about this meal is that if they skip this meal, it could have an adverse effect on their weight. Akansha Jhalani, Registered Dietitian and health blogger at Beyond The Weighing Scale, helps you decode the myths associated with breakfast, so that you enjoy the most important meal of the day in a healthy way.

Juicing your fruit: When you start your blender to juice oranges, remember that this process causes the fruit to lose most of its vitamins, minerals and fibre. Instead, replace your juice with a glass of water and a whole fruit. It will save you some extra calories.

Eating a baby size breakfast: Eating whatever you want cannot help you escape from those extra calories. It is a common myth that eating whatever you wish after a long gap of fasting will not make you gain weight. Oily parathas, waffles, leftover dinner can lead to extra calorie consumption.

Beware of breakfast treats: The tempting doughnuts and muffins can cause as much as an entire meal’s caloric consumption. When placed in front of you, take a deep breath and realise that you have set healthy lifestyle changes and politely decline.

Monitor your caffeine intake: One cup of coffee or tea could help boost your mood and metabolism, but avoid drinking multiple cups of coffee. This can cause sleep deprivation and coffee add-ons can reflect on your body in a bad way.

Unhealthy breakfast: Eat a fist full of nuts, a bowl of cereal and a whole fruit instead of chocolate pancakes, muffins and mayo sandwiches. High calorie and high fat items can cause a sugar spike and recurring spikes could cause health issues.

Thinking breakfast is not important: Even if you feel full from the previous day’s dinner or are in a rush, make sure you eat a quick breakfast. Skipping breakfast slows down our metabolism and makes us feel lethargic. A slice of whole-wheat toast, a fruit or a fist full of sprouts can do the trick.

Avoid breakfast buffets: Buffets and large breakfast spreads could make you eat more than you need. Do not stuff yourself silly by opting for sugar coated cereals, doughnuts and fruit cocktails. Instead, choose egg preparations, leaner meats, oats, wheat flakes and milk.

Gorging on food early in the morning: Have a glass of luke warm water, first thing in the morning. It helps to keep you hydrated, aids digestion, cures gastric ailments and gives you a feeling of fullness.

Not eating a healthy breakfast: Try and eat a healthy breakfast like green tea with a lemon wedge, oats with half a banana/ an egg preparation with an orange and whole wheat toast.

5 lessons from Mark Zuckerberg’s visit to Nigeria

The visit of Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg , to Nigeria has created so much buzz around the country and even the world. Nigerians have posted so many memes and comments on the social media, and we at My Bestie have kept our ears on the ground. Read on to discover 5 lessons we have learned from the legendary visit.

Lagos is undoubtedly the heartbeat of Nigeria
Since Abuja became the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, there have been arguments over which of the two cities -Abuja and Lagos- is the actual heartbeat of the Nation. For those who are still in doubt, the visit of the famous CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, to Lagos has proved that the city is indeed the core of our nation. The social media genius could have visited to any other part of the country, but he picked Lagos. Of course, he visited Abuja later on, but that visit seemed more like an afterthought

Nigeria’s Jollof rice reigns supreme
What more is there to say? Mark Zuckerberg, a well-travelled member of the world’s top class who has probably tasted the best of meals around the world, gushed about Nigeria’s favorite meal- Jollof rice! That certainly is enough to prove that the meal indeed reigns supreme.

There are too many talents in Nigeria
In Mark’s own words: “This trip has really blown me away by the talents of young entrepreneurs and developers in this country, and making a difference and making a change. It reminds me of when I wanted to start Facebook. I wasn’t starting a company at the time but wanted to build something to see if it would work. And that is what I see people here do, pushing through challenges, building things that you want to see in the world. You are not just going to change Nigeria and the whole of Africa but the whole world.”

Simplicity should be a core value for any searching for success
Even President Buhari commended the simplicity of Zuckerberg as he thanked him for sharing his wealth of knowledge with Nigerian youths, and inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs. Although Mark is among the world’s richest men, he does not dress lavishly or engage in impulsive spending. In Buhari’s words: “In our culture, we are not used to seeing successful people appear like you. We are not used to seeing successful people jogging and sweating on the streets. We are more used to seeing successful people in air-conditioned places. We are happy you are well-off and simple enough to always share.’’

The future of Nigeria lies in the hands of the youth
There have been Memes suggesting that Mark Zuckerberg may have boycotted the older men who play key roles in the Nigeria’s telecommunication and media industry as he understands that the future can only be driven by young talents. The CEO mentioned that he was blown away by the talent and level of energy of the Nigerian youth that he saw at the Co-creation Hub in Yaba, Lagos, and this surely reaffirms the belief that the future of Nigeria certain lies in the hand of its youths.

Man dies trying to fix faulty generator in Umuahia

Mr Ogbonnaya Nta, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Abia, has confirmed the death of Mr Chinweoda Ndubuisi, a pastor with Foursquare Gospel Church in Umuahia, the Abia capital.
Nta told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia on Thursday that Ndubuisi, who was in his early 40s, died in an explosion from a faulty generator in his residence.
He said that Ndubuisi was trapped in the fire resulting from the explosion which occurred in the presence of a generator repairer while trying to fix the generator.
Nta said that the incident occurred at Plot 100, Nkwerre Street, Umuahia, on Wednesday evening

He said that the deceased engaged the repairer to work on the generating set and that it suddenly caught fire while they were still trying to kick-start it.
According to the PPRO, fire and smoke engulfed the corner under a staircase, where the generator was securely chained to an iron
protector.
He said that while the repairer, who reportedly stood close to the exit door managed to escape, the deceased could not.
A friend of the deceased told NAN on the condition of anonymity on phone that although his neighbours rallied round to put out the fire, it was difficult to rescue the deceased.
He said that efforts made to drag the burning generator from under the staircase by the rescue team were unsuccessful because it was chained.

“By the time the fire was put out completely, the man was already dead,” Nta said, adding that his remains were later taken to a mortuary after he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
“He died on the spot from burns and suffocation from the generator fume,” he said.
NAN learnt that the repairer sustained minor burns on his hands and other parts of his body and was taken to an undisclosed hospital in the area. (NAN)
